 About Boys Tailored Clothing

  • Please be sure to only allow a Professional Tailor to alter your garments purchased with us. A Seamstress is not a Professional Tailor. They are difficult to find in some areas. We recommend getting a referral from a local menswear store with a good reputation. Dry cleaners are usually not able to perform some of the more complicated alterations needed to make tailored clothing fit properly.

  • All of the garments that we sell come ready to be tailored. Suit jackets & Sport Coats come with center & side seams ready to be let out or taken in as needed. Jacket sleeves can be let down or taken up as well as pant legs. Most pants come unfinished on the bottom, requiring at least a basic hem (or cuff if you prefer). Models that come with finished bottoms are noted as such. Pants (with or without a suit jacket) come with room in the waist, seat & crotch area to be let out or taken in. All boys suits will need the bottoms finished and most require some work to the sleeve, as well.

  • Fitting a boy is different than fitting a man. Boys require extra space for growth. This is usually found around the middle and in the shoulder of the jacket as well as the length. We recommend that the bottom of a jacket fall well below the curve of the boys rear (men's usually fit exactly to this point). We also recommend the sleeve be tailored to stop at the top of his thumb. This is considered a little longer for men. Again, the reason is growth. If he will not wear the item again you can feel free to tailor it as you would any man's garment.

  • We highly recommend asking your Tailor to leave extra fabric inside for your growing young man. This allows you the option of future alterations, as he outgrows the current tailoring.

  • It is not necessary to purchase your boys tailored clothing any more than 8 weeks before he is wearing it. Also, please tailor the clothing no sooner than 2-3 weeks before he wears it. The reason...... growth, of course.

About Boys Fits

  • All garments come available in the sizes noted on their respective information pages. Items can be available in Regular, Slim or Husky fits.

  • Regular sizes will fit most average built frames in that size. Slim garments are usually cut a little bit longer and narrower while Husky items are usually fuller and a bit shorter than regulars of the same size.

  • Every manufacturer and model has the potential to fit differently than the next. Here are some rules of thumb that help us determine best fit in our store:
Slim kids usually do well with suits & jackets by Perry Ellis, Joseph Abboud, Tulliano & Princeton.
Kids with more chest or belly than average usually do well with Calvin, Nicole Miller and Princeton.
Husky fits in all manufacturers usually fit well in the proper size.
Average build kids can usually wear any of the companies we carry.
